Shockingly, this is not about dating while plus-sized.
My mom is addicted to telling me her exact weight. I am intimately acquainted with her journey from leaving the hospital after my birth with a flat stomach to her “fatty” perimenopausal years to her current slim size made possible by swimming and not eating breakfast. And to be fair, it’s not just my mom (who is lovely, but cannot seem to escape this compulsion). It’s all my friends’ Boomer moms: the one who berated herself for taking a second slice of toast at breakfast, the one who basically only eats shrimp, the one who declined a family beach vacation so she could avoid being in a swimsuit.
